Initiation into Education of Vidya Arambh Ceremony

This ceremony is a carry-over of the Guru-Shishya days when the student was left at the Ashram of a learned and wise sage to begin an all-round education.

The thali. full of rice symbolises the idea of plenty. The teacher wishes that the student may prosper but yet he/she should keep the highest ideals which the light of the lamp symbolizes. May the light of knowledge ever guide the novice till the attainment of perfect state. May the student live in the beauty of true happiness which the student will spread after knowledge through great effort and hard-work.

The teacher applies ‘Tilak’ on the pupil wishing him/her all the best because the student is launching upon a new phase in life.

The teacher offers the fruit of the pupil with the wish ‘May your life be fruitful’.

The teacher of the symbol signifies the feeling that education must always be built upon the foundation of everlasting universal values. It signifies the totalily of an all-round education, the integration of the most beautiful values dearest to the human heart. May our students imbibe the highest ethical values, along with the norms of vertical justice and enjoy life built on wisdom's values.
